The people behind the technology
myWaves began with one neuroscientist's personal experience.
Inventor
Dr Alain Destexhe, PhD
- Professor and Research Director, Institute of Neuroscience, Paris-Saclay University
- Director, European Institute for Theoretical Neuroscience (EITN)
- Deputy Director, NeuroPSI
- Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Computational Neuroscience
- Research Director, CNRS
Dr Destexhe had been converting his own brainwaves into sound as a way of visualising them for his research. In the course of that work he made a discovery.
On a flight, listening to a sound converted from his own brainwaves, he relaxed deeply and fell asleep. That experience became the idea: improving sleep quality with a sound built from an individual's own brainwaves.
His research spans the basic biophysical properties of neurons and networks through to how large-scale brain activity emerges in waking, sleep and anaesthesia. It crosses synaptic noise, neural transmission, brain rhythms, the cortex, the thalamus, electrophysiology and brain imaging, and includes pathologies such as epilepsy in both animal models and humans.
We created a personalised sleep solution that brings deep relaxation without using any chemicals at all. That is myWaves.
CNRS & Neurocompute
Where the research came from
Neurocompute (neurocompute.cnrs.fr) is a computational-neuroscience research platform led by the CNRS, France's National Centre for Scientific Research.
The CNRS is among the largest research organisations in the world, with over 32,000 researchers and staff and more than 1,100 laboratories in France and abroad. Its annual budget exceeds €3.5 billion and it is internationally regarded in basic research.
It also holds more than 7,000 patents and works actively to turn science into technology that reaches people. The myWaves project is one such case.

How Sun Digital Health fits in
myWaves grew out of a CNRS research team in France. Sun Digital Health holds exclusive Japanese distribution rights and handles sales and support. It does not manufacture the product.
